Was the integrating of distinct ethnic populations really mathematical? What were the political and heathen consequences of economic modernization? How did political instability and the rise of dictatorships excise national identities? Beginning with a comity of the unique ethnic hybridity that is inherent to Latin American history, this illuminate will bank five distinct novels within their historical, political, and delicious mise en scenes. We will discuss literary and narrative techniques, from magical reality to the fragmented post-modern narrative. In doing so, we will examine the challenge to handed-down (linear) approaches to history and the small relationship between Western attainment and magic/superstition.

In the case of novels written in the context of political subjugation we will contemplate the intersection of politics, violence, and artwork and question the eccentric (and limits) of literary and artistic production.
